“Steep approach” capability

Airbus’ A318 is the largest commercial aircraft certified to land at steeper than usual gradients, with the potential to transform long-haul operations between city centres and reduce precious time and costs for business travellers.

The A318 was approved for steep approach landing capability by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in 2007, with this modern jetliner certified for a 5.5-degree approach slope. This compares to a nominal 3-degree slope for standard operations.

Sharklets™

The new Sharklet wing tip devices for A320 Family jetliners – of which the A319 is a member – are part of a long-term enhancement programme to ensure Airbus’ single-aisle aircraft product line remains highly competitive, efficient and airport-friendly for years to come.

Offered as optional equipment on new production A320-series aircraft, Sharklets provide aerodynamic improvements that result in multiple benefits for operators – including lower fuel burn, reduced emissions, increased range and payload, better take-off performance and rate-of-climb, higher optimum altitude and reduced engine maintenance costs.

A320 New Engine Option

Airbus’ A320 aircraft family – which is recognised worldwide as the benchmark single-aisle jetliner product line – will be even more fuel-efficient and eco-friendly with a new engine option now being offered to customers.

Designated the A320neo, this option provides the minimum change with maximum benefit for the A319, A320 and A321 through the availability of two new jet engine choices – CFM International’s LEAP-X and the PW1100G-JM PurePower from Pratt & Whitney – along with the use of large wing tip devices called Sharklets.

The environmental performance of Airbus’ A350-800 is supported by next-generation Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines and state-of-the-art aerodynamics, both of which help reduce its emissions below current and anticipated future regulatory levels.

In addition, carbon dioxide emissions per passenger will be approximately 25 per cent lower than current-generation aircraft in this category, while exterior noise levels will be as much as 21 EPNdB (Effective Perceived Noise Decibel) below ICAO Chapter 4 requirements.

Revenue generation

The A380’s service introduction ushered in a new era of airline transportation for operators. Whether it’s being used to reduce the number of flights and create cost savings while maintaining capacity, or to offer more capacity with fewer takeoff slots, the A380 brings operators a wide range of commercial advantages.

Furthermore, with two full-length decks, more space for every passenger, and a flying experience no other aircraft in the sky can match, the A380 has become a must-have ticket on every route it flies – resulting in a significant first-mover advantage for operators.
